Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) continues to encourage the private sector to be involved in infrastructure development in Indonesia. One thing that is encouraged is port development.

The Indonesian Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, said that currently the Indonesian logistics index had dropped from rank 53 to rank 63. This became an introspection that became his homework.

For this reason, Budi Karya asked that he would open up opportunities to the private sector as much as possible to participate in accelerating the development of sea transportation infrastructure.

"This port is a key entity in a logistics chain in Indonesia, so it has an important function in the distribution of logistics," said Budi Karya in his Office, Thursday (10/27/2016).

To support this, Budi Karya claimed to have handed 22 ports to BUMN. In this case PT Pelindo I, II, III, and IV to be managed.

In order to support the ports managed by this BUMN, Budi Karya asked the private sector to be more vigorous in building feeder and collecting ports.

One example is the port of Talang Duku in Jambi, which is at the mouth of the Batang Hari River. At the Port of Muaro Jambi currently being developed by the private sector, namely PT Wahyu Samudera Indah.

"I want the private sector to maintain the concept of connecting and feeding, supporting the hub port that we have developed," Budi Karya said.

Currently the Ministry of Transportation is developing five hub ports in Indonesia to streamline logistics flows, namely Tanjung Priok Port, Tanjung Perak Port, Kuala Tanjung Port, Makassar Port and Bitung Port. (Yas / Ahm) Nusantara Pelabuhan Handal PORT
