Since the early 17th century, the Ancol area has been eyed by the Governor of the Dutch East Indies - Adriaan Valckenier, as one of the attractive tourist destinations with great potential to be developed.

However, due to the Government's focus at that time on the War of Independence, the development of Ancol's tourism potential was neglected. Over time, Ancol again received the attention of the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, where at the end of December 1965, he ordered and appointed the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Dr. H. Soemarno Sosroatmodjo became the Executor of the Ancol Regional Development and Development to develop Ancol as a tourist destination. The development of the Ancol project continued until 1966 and under the leadership of the Governor of DKI Jakarta - Ali Sadikin, all work on the entire Ancol project was transferred to the Ancol Project Development Implementing Agency (BPP) which later became the forerunner to the establishment of PT Pembangunan Jaya. On October 19, 1966, in his capacity as BPP for the Ancol Project, PT Pembangunan Jaya played a role in preparing all stages of project planning, starting from the preparation of development concepts, strategies, master plans to other development activities, including marketing strategies.

Over time, the Ancol Project BPP began to make improvements internally following the change in its legal entity status to PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol (“Ancol”) through the Deed of Amendment No. 33 dated July 10, 1992. Following these reforms, 80% of Jaya Ancol's shares were controlled by the DKI Jakarta Regional Government and the remaining 20% ​​was owned by PT Pembangunan Jaya. In the midst of increasingly rapid business expansion and an improving domestic economy, PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol seeks to strengthen its capital structure by conducting an Initial Public Offering ("IPO") by releasing 80,000,000 ordinary shares on the Stock Exchange. Indonesia (IDX) on July 2, 2004. Following the corporate action, PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol officially became a Public Company with the composition of Ancol's share ownership automatically changing where the DKI Jakarta Regional Government still acts as the main shareholder but the total share ownership is 72% of Ancol shares, PT Pembangunan Jaya owns 18% and the public owns the remaining 10%. Pembangunan Jaya Ancol PJAA

The Company is one of the pioneers in Indonesia’s property developer. The Company’s grand work includes apartments, house/shop complex, residential and hotels. However, the Company is optimistic that increased revenues from property and services segments will occur in 2014. Ongoing projects will support the Company’s establishment as a market leader in the recreation industry including development segment. They are the construction of a four-star hotel, Dufan Ocean development, also development of several prestigious property projects, namely Ancol Northland Apartments, Coasta Villa exclusive residence, Jaya Ancol Seafront, and additional land bank through reclamation.
