Indonesia, the emerald of the equator. 17,000 islands. 260 million people. Boundless biodiversity. Largest economy in Southeast Asia.

Indonesia’s robust economic development and steady population growth has increased energy consumption. As we are endowed with significant potential for renewable energy such as hydropower, micro hydropower, solar, biomass, and wind, the Indonesian government is stepping up efforts to realize its extensive renewable energy potential by committing to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix to 23% by 2028 and at least 31% in 2050*.

Within this exciting time and environment for renewable energy investment and technological partnerships, we aim to electrify industries and homes, improving living standards across Indonesia through innovation, cooperation and achieving both environmentally friendly and economical power generation. Kencana Energi Lestari KEEN

PT Kencana Energi Lestari Tbk is a prominent renewable energy provider company in Indonesia with a portfolio of two subsidiaries - PT Bangun Tirta Lestari and PT Energi Sakti Sentosa, generating renewable energy to industries and homes in Indonesia.

We actively expand our business throughout the country. Kencana Energy operates PLTA Pakkat, a hydropower plant in North Sumatra run by PT Energi Sakti Sentosa, and PLTA Air Putih in Bengkulu, which is run by PT Bangun Tirta Lestari. We are constructing PLTMH Madong, a micro-hydropower plant in North Toraja, and expand to other locations in Sumatra and Sulawesi.

We were able to secure the much-coveted Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). The PPA is fundamental to the business of Independent Power Producers (IPP). One of our key strengths is our experience in the field of renewable energy, supported by our strong financial profile, which results from a stable and secure income stream upon delivery of PPA with PLN.

Currently, we have entered 3 PPAs with PLN, of which 18 MW is undertaken by PT Energi Sakti Sentosa (ESS), 21 MW by PT Bangun Tirta Lestari (BTL) and 10MW by PT Nagata Dinamika Hidro Madong. ESS began its commercial operation in 2016 and BTL is expected to operate in the third quarter of 2019. Kencana Energi Lestari KEEN

PLTA Pakkat

Energi Sakti Sentosa (ESS) is a subsidiary of Kencana Energy, which owns and operates Pakkat Hydroelectric Power Plant, located in Humbang Hasundutan regency, North Sumatera. The plant has been able to provide substantial amount of electricity - 125.00 gigawatt hours annually with a utilization rate 79.27% - while actively maintaining and preserving surrounding natural ecosystems.

It is sustained by a vast river basin area of 25,000 hectares and an annual rainfall of up to 4,000 millimeters. The technical advisory for its feasibility study was the National Research Institute for Rural Electrification (NRIRE), a Hangzhou-based company sponsored by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Chinese government. ESS engaged two EPC contractors during the plant development - Jiangxi Water and Hydropower Construction Co, Ltd. and Sinohydro Corporation Ltd. ESS commissioned Strojirny Brno’s, a Czech Republic-based company to supply its turbines and hydro mechanical equipments.

Pakkat started operation in 2016, and as a sign of confidence from the government, PLN increased its total capacity from 10 MW to its current 18 MW in 2017. Kencana Energi Lestari KEEN

PLTA Air Putih

Following the success of PLTA Pakkat, PT Kencana Energi Lestari, Tbk. constructed its second PLTA: PLTA Air Putih in Lebong Regency, Bengkulu. The PLTA is scheduled to start its commercial operation in the third quarter of 2019 and will be run by PT Bangun Tirta Lestari (BTL), a subsidiary of PT Kencana Energi Lestari, Tbk.

PLTA Air Putih utilizes the flow of Ketahun River and Air Putih River for its run-of-the-river (ROR) system. BTL employed two EPC contractors in the construction of the PLTA, i.e. Sinohydro Corporation Ltd. and Anhe Hydro Engineering. The turbine used in the PLTA is supplied by Hangzhou Hangfa Electrical Equipment Company. The PLTA is designed to have a total installed capacity of 21.90 MW with electric power output of 135.00 gigawatt hours per year.

With 4,000 mm/year of precipitation and a watershed area of 100,000 hectares, PLTA Air Putih is expected to bring Kencana Energy one step forward in achieving its vision as the leading provider of renewable energy in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Kencana Energi Lestari KEEN
