Aqua Golden Mississippi (AQUB)
PT Aqua Golden Mississippi was founded in 1973 in Indonesia. The idea of establishing an AMDK company arose when Tirto worked as a Pertamina employee in the early 1970 and Petronas employees in the early 1980. At that time Tirto was in charge of entertaining a delegation from a US company. But the banquet was disrupted when the delegation chairman's wife suffered diarrhea caused by consuming unclean water. Tirto later learned that his guests from Western countries were not accustomed to drinking boiled drinking water, but sterilized water.
He and his brothers began to learn how to process bottled water in Bangkok, Thailand. He asked his younger brother, Slamet Utomo to do an internship at Polaris, an AMDK company which at that time had been operating for 16 years in Thailand. It is not surprising if in the beginning Aqua products resembled Polaris starting from the shape of glass bottles, water treatment machine brands, to bottle washing machines and water fillers, because in Indonesia there was none. Tirto boss, Ibnu Sutowo also said: Strange Tirto iki, how come the floods were broken into bottles.
Tirto established his first factory in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi, and named the factory PT Golden Mississippi with a production capacity of six million liters per year. Tirto had doubts about the name of PT Golden Mississippi which, although it suited its target market, was an expatriate, but it sounded unfamiliar to the Indonesian people. Before it was called Aqua, it was called Puritas (another name for Pure Artesian Water), which had a clover leaf logo. However, Eulindra Lim, proposed to use the name Aqua because it fits the image of drinking water in a bottle and is not difficult to pronounce. He agreed and changed his product brand from Puritas to Aqua in October 1974, because the word Puritas is difficult to pronounce. Two years later, Aqua's first production was launched in the form of a 950 ml glass bottle with a selling price of Rp. 75, almost double the price of gasoline, which was valued at Rp. 46 / liter.
